My approach to my artwork begins through observation. I enjoy painting subjects I am most familiar with in my life and strive to bring out the beauty in the ordinary. Through my art, I have found a deep appreciation for capturing subjects that are often overlooked and bringing to light certain qualities that make those subjects unique.
I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Gwen Frostic School of Art at Western Michigan University. I have become accustomed to working with oils, but still favor working in pastel for the majority of my work because I enjoy the rich colors and versatility of pastels in achieving rough textures, as well as having the freedom to blend colors.
